What does a complete flight simulator include?

A complete flight simulator reproduces cockpit, controls and avionics, but not all of them include the same items. The RealSimGear SRx Home comes with a full-scale replica Cirrus SR Series cockpit, a 49″ OLED display, PC and X-Plane 12. The Virtual Fly SOLO A replicates the analogue cockpit of the Cessna 172S and 182RG and integrates an internal PC, screen, Yoko+ yoke and V3RNIO+ throttle quadrant.

The Trak Racer TR550 Airbus is the structure only: a cockpit with an officially licensed Airbus seat, mounts and a pedal platform. Flight controls, rudder pedals and electronics are sold separately.

How to choose your flight simulator

  • Aircraft: Cirrus SR20, SR22 and SR22T with RealSimGear; Cessna 172S and 182RG with Virtual Fly.
  • Space: a 76 × 25 cm console on the SRx Desktop; 1.4 × 1.5 m for the SRx Home; 3 × 3 m for the SRx Pro.
  • Controls: the SRx Desktop does not include rudder pedals. See our yokes, rudder pedals and flight cockpits.

Software: Microsoft Flight Simulator, X-Plane and Prepar3D

The SRx Home and Pro use X-Plane 12; the SRx Desktop uses RealSimGear software with Cirrus SR profiles. The SOLO A is compatible with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024, X-Plane and Prepar3D v4-5. The TR550 is designed for PC with those titles, DCS World and Aerofly FS; final compatibility depends on the hardware you install.

For home or for flight schools

For flight schools, the RealSimGear SRx Pro has FAA AATD approval with LOA and an instructor station. The SRx Desktop has FAA BATD approval, and on the SRx Home it is an optional add-on. These are approvals from the US FAA: if you train under another authority, check with your school first. RealSimGear is currently distributed in Spain and Portugal only; for other countries, please ask about availability. How much does a complete flight simulator cost?

It depends on the model and configuration. The Virtual Fly SOLO A costs €15,699.99; the RealSimGear SRx Desktop, from €17,299.99 to €21,899.99; the SRx Home, from €32,299.99 to €35,699.99; and the SRx Pro, from €52,999.99 to €55,999.99. The Trak Racer TR550 costs €1,029.99, but it is the structure only, without controls or electronics.

Which aircraft do these simulators reproduce?

The RealSimGear SRx models reproduce the Cirrus SR20, SR22 and SR22T. The Virtual Fly SOLO A replicates the cockpit of the Cessna 172S and 182RG. The Trak Racer TR550 does not reproduce a panel: it is a cockpit with an Airbus seat and mounts for sidestick, centre stick or yoke.

Which flight simulators have FAA approval?

The RealSimGear SRx Pro is FAA-approved as an AATD and includes the Letter of Authorization (LOA). The SRx Desktop has FAA BATD approval and the SRx Home offers it as an optional add-on. These are approvals from the US FAA. The product pages for the Virtual Fly SOLO A and the Trak Racer TR550 do not state any FAA approval.

Is the Trak Racer TR550 a complete simulator?

No. It is the structure only: a cockpit with an officially licensed Airbus seat, control mounts and a pedal platform. Flight controls, rudder pedals and electronics are sold separately. It works on PC, not on consoles.
