The Dayton Audio BST-1 is a 50 W tactile bass shaker (transducer) at 4 ohms for sim racing, gaming and home cinema that turns your seat, pedals or cockpit into a surface that vibrates with the deepest bass.

Unlike a speaker, the BST-1 doesn't reproduce audible sound: it converts the low-frequency signal into physical vibration, so you feel the engine, a kerb strike or an explosion without turning up the room volume. Its high-grade aluminium housing and custom nylon/fibre spider are built for years of heavy use, and it mounts with screws onto any flat, rigid surface.

Dayton Audio BST-1 key features

  • 50 W RMS at 4 ohms: punchy tactile impact with modest power draw.
  • Vibration without noise: you feel the bass without flooding the room with sound pressure, ideal for playing or watching films at low volume.
  • Durable build: high-grade aluminium housing and nylon/fibre spider for years of performance.
  • Made for sim racing: driven from PC with SimHub and other telemetry software to sync the vibration with the track.
  • Scalable: connect 2 or 4 units in series or parallel for more bass energy (maximum 50 W RMS per shaker).
  • Simple mounting: fixed with screws to a seat, platform, sofa or cockpit frame.

Compatibility

The BST-1 needs a stereo or bridged-mono bass shaker amplifier that supports 4 ohms; Dayton Audio recommends the SA70 for one unit, the SPA250 for two to four, and the SA1000 or SPA1000 for large installations. In sim racing it's driven from PC with SimHub or other telemetry software, and it also adds impact to home cinema, gaming and vehicle audio. For two or four units, wire in series or parallel and check in your amplifier's manual that it supports the final impedance, never exceeding 50 W RMS per shaker. You can add the dedicated BST-1 mounting kit for a clean, discreet fit.

Dayton Audio BST-1 FAQ

Is the Dayton Audio BST-1 good for sim racing?

Yes. The BST-1 is one of the most widely used tactile transducers in sim racing: mounted under the seat or on the cockpit frame, it reproduces the engine, kerbs and track bumps as physical vibration. It's driven from PC with SimHub to sync the effects with your telemetry.

Do I need an amplifier for the BST-1?

Yes. The BST-1 doesn't connect directly to the source: it's powered by a bass shaker amplifier that supports 4 ohms. For one unit, Dayton Audio recommends the SA70; for two to four, the SPA250.

How many BST-1s can I connect together?

Up to four. Two units in series give 8 ohms and two in parallel 2 ohms; four in series-parallel keep 4 ohms. Always check in your amplifier's manual that it supports the final impedance and never exceed 50 W RMS per shaker.

Does the BST-1 make audible noise?

No. The BST-1 generates vibration, not sound: it turns low frequencies into tactile impact, so you feel the bass without turning up the volume or disturbing the next room.

Where do you mount the BST-1 in a cockpit?

Under the seat or on the cockpit frame, with full contact on a flat, rigid surface. A low-pass filter at 80 Hz or below removes unwanted high frequencies and leaves only the bass vibration.
