The Lindy Cat.6 S/FTP is an RJ45 network cable with double shielding (an overall braid plus foil around each pair), bandwidth up to 250MHz and Gigabit Ethernet (1 Gbps) support, available from 0.3 to 30 metres.

S/FTP shielding (also known as PiMF) is exactly what a cockpit needs: inside a racing simulator you have power supplies, direct drive motors, motion systems and dozens of cables side by side, and that electrical noise is what degrades a poorly protected connection. Manufactured and tested to ISO/IEC 11801, with gold-plated RJ45 contacts and snagless latch protection.

Key features

  • Double S/FTP (PiMF) shielding: overall braid plus foil on every twisted pair.
  • Bandwidth up to 250MHz and Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T).
  • Gold-plated RJ45 contacts: better conductivity and no corrosion over time.
  • Snagless design: protects the connector latch, the typical failure point of a patch lead.
  • AWG 27 copper conductor, 4 twisted pairs, black PVC jacket.
  • Manufactured and tested to ISO/IEC 11801, EN 50173 and TIA/EIA-568.
  • Ten lengths, from 0.3 to 30 m, and a 10-year manufacturer warranty.

Which length should you choose?

0.3 to 1 m to link two adjacent devices or a switch to the router. 2 to 5 m to run the network from the router to the simulator PC in the same room: the best-selling range. 7.5 to 30 m for runs between rooms, sim centre installations or cabling to a rack.

Compatibility

  • Devices: anything with an RJ45 port — simulator PC, routers, switches, consoles, NAS, IP cameras and streaming gear.
  • Networks: 10/100/1000BASE-T. For 10 Gigabit over long runs, step up to Cat.6A or higher.
  • Installation: suitable for structured cabling, racks and network cabinets; respect the 74 mm minimum bend radius when routing it through the chassis.

Frequently asked questions

What does S/FTP mean and why does it matter in a simulator?

S/FTP (or PiMF) means each pair is shielded with foil and the whole bundle also carries an overall braid. Inside a cockpit, with power supplies, direct drive motors, motion systems and dozens of cables running together, that double shielding reduces the electrical noise that can degrade the signal.

Is Cat.6 better than Wi-Fi for iRacing or Assetto Corsa?

Yes. A Cat.6 cable delivers lower, more stable latency than Wi-Fi and removes ping spikes and micro-dropouts, which in an online race translate into warping or unfair penalties.

Does it support 2.5 or 10 Gigabit?

Lindy specifies this cable for Gigabit Ethernet (1 Gbps) with bandwidth up to 250MHz. For 10 Gigabit over long runs, the right choice is Cat.6A or higher.

What is the snagless design?

It is a moulded protection over the RJ45 latch that stops it catching and snapping when you route the cable through the cockpit chassis or pull it out of a switch. It is the most common failure on a patch lead.

Which length do I need?

0.3 to 1 m to connect a switch to the router or two adjacent devices; 2 to 5 m to run the network from the router to the simulator PC in the same room; and 7.5 to 30 m for runs between rooms or sim centre installations.

What warranty does it have?

Lindy offers a 10-year warranty on this Cat.6 S/FTP patch lead range.
