The TP-Link TL-WPA7617 KIT is an AV1000 powerline kit with an AC1200 Wi-Fi extender that carries your network over the existing mains wiring for up to 300 m of line, bringing a stable connection to rooms the router's signal struggles to reach.

The kit contains two units: the TL-PA7017P adapter, plugged in next to the router, which feeds the network into the electrical wiring, and the TL-WPA7617 extender, which adds a Gigabit Ethernet port and dual-band Wi-Fi in the target room. It uses the HomePlug AV2 standard with a physical rate of up to 1000 Mbps and needs no configuration or software.

Is a powerline adapter good enough for online sim racing?

Yes. The TL-WPA7617 extender includes a Gigabit Ethernet port, so you can hard-wire the simulator PC instead of relying on Wi-Fi. The powerline link reaches up to 1000 Mbps and avoids the interference typical of a wireless signal.

Do I need building work or new cabling?

No. The kit uses the existing mains wiring: plug the TL-PA7017P in next to the router and the TL-WPA7617 in the target room. No configuration is required.

Do I lose the wall socket the adapter uses?

No. The TL-PA7017P has an integrated passthrough socket with a noise filter, so you can keep using the outlet for other appliances without hurting powerline performance.

Will it reach another floor of the house?

Yes, provided both sockets are on the same consumer unit. The link covers up to 300 m of electrical line.

Will I always get 1000 Mbps?

No. The 1000 Mbps figure is the maximum physical rate of the HomePlug AV2 standard. Real throughput depends on the condition of the electrical installation, the distance and the noise generated by other connected appliances.

Can I expand the network later on?

Yes. You can add more compatible TP-Link powerline adapters to the same network, and the kit joins an EasyMesh network to unify Wi-Fi across the whole home.
