The VIRPIL CDT-AEROMAX is an all-metal omnithrottle flightstick with 14-bit contactless sensors (0.02° angle detection) for flight and space simulation, compatible with PC and available in left-hand (LZ) and right-hand (RZ) versions.
Launched by VIRPIL Controls as the most compact dual-cam flightstick on the market, the CDT-AEROMAX adds a Z-axis extension that turns it into an omnithrottle: on top of pitch, roll and twist yaw, you control thrust without letting go of the grip. It is part of the VIRPIL Controls range and fits both HOTAS setups and HOSAS dual-stick rigs.
Key features
- Metal dual-cam per-axis gimbal with CNC-machined parts and symmetrical cams for compact centering.
- VPC contactless digital sensors with 14-bit resolution and 0.02° angle detection.
- Built-in Z-axis extension (omnithrottle) to control thrust or vectors in 3D environments.
- Independently adjustable clutch dampers on each axis.
- Lockable twist axis and infinitely adjustable grip offset angle.
- Recognised as a standard USB HID device: no drivers required.
- Programmable with the VPC Configuration Suite: virtual axes, shift states, axis-to-buttons and more.

Which version should you choose?
Choose the LZ (left hand) if you will use the CDT-AEROMAX as a thrust stick in a HOSAS setup or on the left of your rig; go for the RZ (right hand) for the main pitch-and-roll stick. For a full dual-stick setup you can combine both.
Compatibility
- Compatible with PC (Windows) and any simulator or game that supports standard USB controllers; no drivers needed.
- Ideal for flight and space simulators such as DCS World, Star Citizen or Elite Dangerous.
- Fits HOTAS, HOSAS, VPCockpit and DIY simpit setups.
- Compatible with the CDT-AEROMAX Throttle Module and the Desk Mount adapter, both optional.
- It is not a console controller (PlayStation or Xbox).
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the LZ and RZ versions?
The LZ is designed for the left hand and the RZ for the right hand. You can combine both to build a complete HOSAS dual-stick setup.
Does the CDT-AEROMAX need drivers?
No. It is recognised as a standard USB HID device and works without drivers. Use the free VPC Configuration Suite to map buttons and create virtual axes.
What is the Z-axis omnithrottle extension?
It is an analogue axis built into the grip that lets you control thrust without letting go of the stick, ideal for space combat and advanced flight.
Is it compatible with DCS World, Star Citizen or Elite Dangerous?
Yes. It works with any simulator or game that supports standard USB controllers, including DCS World, Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous.
Can I expand it with a throttle?
Yes. It is compatible with the optional CDT-AEROMAX Throttle Module and with the Desk Mount adapter for fixing it to your desk.
What warranty does it include?
It includes a 2-year official manufacturer's warranty, handled by Simufy as an official VIRPIL distributor.
