The Pimax Dream Air SE is a PCVR virtual reality headset with Micro-OLED panels at 2560 x 2560 pixels per eye and a headset weight under 140 g, aimed at sim racing and flight simulation on PC.

It shares the ConcaveView optics of the Dream Air range and keeps the DFR-ready eye tracking, the integrated spatial audio and the dual-fan cooling, with a 105° horizontal field of view. It connects to your PC over a split DisplayPort cable, with uncompressed video, and runs on Pimax Play software. Two tracking versions are available: Lighthouse (headset only) and SLAM with two 6DoF controllers included.

If you already run a racing simulator with SteamVR base stations on the wall, the Lighthouse version reuses that setup and leaves the controllers out. Starting from scratch, the SLAM version needs nothing mounted on the wall and includes both controllers and hand tracking.

Compatibility

PCVR only: requires a PC running Windows 10 or 11 (x64) with a DP 1.4a output and a USB 3.0 or higher port. It is not compatible with PlayStation or Xbox.
Works with laptops provided they have a direct GPU output to MiniDP or USB-C, using an adapter that supports DP 1.4a at 8K and 60 Hz.
Lighthouse version: works with SteamVR controllers such as Valve Index, Pimax Sword or HTC Vive, sold separately.
Pimax Play software; runs SteamVR titles as well as OpenXR and OpenVR applications.

What is the difference between the Lighthouse and SLAM versions?

The SLAM version uses inside-out tracking with 4 cameras on the headset, includes 2 6DoF controllers, hand tracking and pass-through, and needs no base stations. The Lighthouse version works with SteamVR 1.0 or 2.0 base stations (not included), includes neither controllers nor hand tracking, but supports SteamVR trackers.

Does the Pimax Dream Air SE work with PS5 or Xbox?

No. It is a PCVR-only headset that connects over a split DisplayPort cable to a PC running Windows 10 or 11; it is not compatible with consoles.

What PC do I need to run the Dream Air SE?

As a minimum, an RTX 2070, RTX 3060, RTX 4060 or RX 5700 XT GPU with 16 GB of RAM. Pimax recommends an RTX 3080, RTX 4070 Super or RX 6800, and 32 GB of RAM for the most demanding settings. Your PC needs a DP 1.4a output and a USB 3.0 or higher port.

Can I use it with a laptop?

Yes, provided the laptop has a direct graphics card output to MiniDP or USB-C. You will need an adapter that meets the DP 1.4a specification at 8K and 60 Hz.

How does it differ from the Pimax Dream Air?

The Dream Air SE keeps the Micro-OLED panels, the ConcaveView optics, the eye tracking, the spatial audio and the dual-fan cooling, but drops to 2560 x 2560 pixels per eye and a 105° horizontal field of view, at under 140 g. The Dream Air offers a higher resolution per eye.

Does it support prescription lenses if I wear glasses?

The standard Pimax prescription lens covers myopia from -1.0 D to -6.0 D. It does not correct astigmatism or hyperopia; outside that range you will need a specialist optical supplier.
