The TP-Link Deco X55 is an AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 mesh system of three units that creates a single network of up to 3 Gbps across the whole home, with 3 Gigabit ports per node to hard-wire the simulator PC, a console or a NAS.

Each unit runs dual band with 4 streams (2×2 HE160 at 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 2×2 at 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz), and the three coordinate through Mesh AI to form one network with a single name and password. Handover between nodes takes less than 0.3 seconds, so the connection does not drop as you move around the house.

Key features

  • AX3000 dual-band Wi-Fi 6: up to 3 Gbps combined (2402 Mbps on 5 GHz + 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz).
  • Coverage of up to 603 m² with the three units, with no dead zones.
  • 3 Gigabit ports per unit (WAN/LAN), with optional wired Ethernet backhaul for extra stability.
  • Over 150 devices at once thanks to OFDMA and MU-MIMO.
  • Mesh AI: the system learns from its environment and optimises connection paths automatically.
  • Roaming in under 0.3 s: node handover you will not notice mid-race or mid-call.
  • TP-Link HomeShield and WPA3 encryption: network protection, IoT security and parental controls.

Compatibility

  • Works with any internet provider; runs as your main router or as an access point alongside the existing one.
  • Compatible with the rest of the Deco range: you can expand the mesh with more units later on.
  • All three nodes accept wired connections, ideal for bringing Ethernet to the racing simulator, a console or a NAS.
  • Getting the most from Wi-Fi 6 (OFDMA, MU-MIMO, HE160) requires client devices that support those features.

Frequently asked questions

Should I hard-wire the simulator to the Deco or use Wi-Fi 6?

For online competition, use the cable. Each Deco X55 unit has 3 Gigabit ports, so you can place a node next to the cockpit and connect the PC over Ethernet: latency is steadier than over Wi-Fi, even though Wi-Fi 6 reaches 2402 Mbps.

Does it replace my provider's router?

It can replace it (router mode) or sit alongside it (access point mode). It works with any internet provider, although in some cases you will still need to keep the provider's modem.

What is Ethernet backhaul and why does it help?

It is the link between nodes. By default it is wireless, but if you join two units with a network cable that link stops eating Wi-Fi bandwidth and the network gains speed and stability.

Does the connection drop when moving between nodes?

No. The three units form a single network with the same name and password, and handover between nodes happens in under 0.3 seconds, with no noticeable interruption.

Can I extend the coverage later?

Yes. The Deco X55 is compatible with the rest of the Deco range, so you simply add another unit to the network to cover more floor area.

Do I need the app to set it up?

Yes. Setup and management run through the Deco app for iOS and Android, which also gives access to HomeShield and the parental controls.
