The Thrustmaster Sol-R 4 HOTAS is a PC HOTAS system made up of a joystick and a throttle, with 58 assignable actions and X, Y and Z axes using 16-bit H.E.A.R.T. magnetic sensors, built for air combat, civil aviation and space simulation.
HOTAS (Hands On Throttle And Stick) means flying with one hand on the stick and the other on the throttle, controlling trajectory and thrust at the same time without letting go of the controls. The joystick pairs the detachable Sol-R grip with the Sol-R base, both interchangeable within the Thrustmaster FlightSim ecosystem.
Key features of the Sol-R 4 HOTAS
- Complete HOTAS system: joystick with detachable grip plus throttle, for 58 assignable actions in total.
- Grip with 21 buttons: 2 triggers (one dual-position), 2 hat switches, 1 ministick and 1 thumbwheel.
- 3 axes (X, Y and Z) with 16-bit H.E.A.R.T. magnetic technology, contactless and drift-free.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between HOTAS and HOSAS?
With HOTAS (Hands On Throttle And Stick) you fly using a joystick and a throttle, the classic military and civil aviation layout. HOSAS uses two joysticks and is more common in space sim. The Sol-R 4 is a HOTAS system.
What is the adjustable throttle detent for?
The detent is a physical stop that marks a reference point along the travel. The Sol-R 4 lets you set it to 4 positions (none, 50%, 80% afterburner or dual-detent) to match the aircraft you are flying.
Does the Sol-R 4 HOTAS work on PS5 or Xbox?
No. The Sol-R 4 HOTAS is a PC-only system (Windows 10 and 11) and is not compatible with consoles.
How many actions can be assigned?
Up to 58 actions: 44 across the joystick grip and base, plus 14 more on the throttle, all programmable with the free T.A.R.G.E.T. software.
Can the joystick grip be swapped?
Yes. The Sol-R grip is detachable and can be fitted to an AVA base, while the Sol-R base accepts the Viper and F/A-18C Hornet grips (sold separately).
