The TP-Link LS105G is an unmanaged 5-port Gigabit desktop switch (10/100/1000 Mbps) with a steel case and fanless operation, built to expand the wired network of a setup with no configuration at all.

It belongs to TP-Link's LiteWave range: connect it to the router, gain four extra Gigabit ports and it works straight away. It supports 802.1p/DSCP QoS to prioritise latency-sensitive traffic, and Green Ethernet technology, which adjusts power draw according to link status and cable length.

Does it need any configuration or software?

No. The LS105G is an unmanaged switch: connect it to the router with a network cable and it works immediately. Auto-MDI/MDIX detects the cable type, so no crossover cables are needed.

How many devices can I actually connect?

It has 5 Gigabit ports. One is taken by the uplink cable to the router, leaving 4 free for a PC, console, NAS, IP camera or any other wired device.

What is 802.1p/DSCP QoS for?

It lets the switch honour the priority of tagged traffic — voice, video or gaming — so it does not degrade when the network is congested by downloads or other devices.

Can it be wall-mounted?

Yes. It supports both desktop placement and wall mounting. Being fanless, it is completely silent, so it can live next to the driving position without adding noise.

How does it differ from the 8-port LS1008G?

The LS105G has 5 ports, a metal case and QoS. The LS1008G offers 8 ports and a plastic case but no QoS. Choose the LS105G if you need traffic prioritisation, the LS1008G if you simply need more ports.
