The GSI X-29 is a 290 mm sim racing steering wheel machined from 6061 aluminium for PC, with 41 mappable inputs, 10 RGB buttons and N52 magnetic paddle shifters, conceived as the entry point to the Gomez Sim Industries high-end range.
It is the most compact and most affordable wheel in the GSI catalogue, yet it shares its factory, materials and components with wheels costing three times as much: a machined aluminium unibody chassis, overmoulded direct-injection silicone handles and the same neodymium N52 paddle magnets used on the flagship models. It does without a display and without an RGB telemetry strip; in exchange it weighs 1.14 kg and its 290 mm format works equally well in formula, GT and prototype cars.
Key features of the GSI X-29
- 41 mappable inputs in the 2-paddle configuration and 43 with the dual clutch fitted.
- 10 RGB buttons with 500 gf actuation force and scratch-resistant polycarbonate caps.
- 3 five-way encoders with 3.5 N·cm resistance and 2 seven-way multi switches to manage brake bias and menus without letting go of the wheel.
- 20 individually addressable RGB LEDs across the buttons, configurable from your usual dash software.
- 6061 aluminium unibody chassis with a 4 mm aluminium front plate and laser-etched functions.
- GSI “CEMS N52” magnetic paddle shifters, with “HSE” analogue clutches available in the 4-paddle configuration.
- 290 mm diameter and 1.14 kg in the 2-paddle version: the lightest wheel in the GSI range.

Which version should you choose?
The X-29 is ordered with 2 paddles (shifting only) or with 4 paddles, which add the “HSE” analogue dual clutch for managing the bite point on standing starts. The four-paddle build adds 110 g and two extra inputs; if you do not race with grid starts, the 2-paddle configuration is lighter and cheaper.
What’s in the box
- GSI X-29 steering wheel
- GSI “Spec 3” coiled USB cable
The AH50 extension hub is sold separately.
Compatibility
It runs over USB on PC (Windows) and mounts on direct drive wheelbases with a 70 mm PCD, either directly or through the matching quick release or hub. GSI lists it as compatible with Simucube, Simagic, VRS DirectForce Pro, Asetek SimSports via its quick release, Accuforce with the Accuforce QR, MOZA with the MOZA QR, Fanatec direct drive bases through the Podium Hub and, broadly, any 8 Nm or higher wheelbase.
- Not compatible with consoles: it is a USB peripheral for PC.
- Connect it to a powered USB hub or an active USB repeater; passive USB extension cables cause problems.
- There is no screen and no telemetry strip: race information is read on an external dash or on your monitor.
Frequently asked questions
How many inputs does the X-29 actually have?
41 mappable inputs in the 2-paddle configuration and 43 with the dual clutch. They come from 10 buttons, 3 five-way encoders, 2 seven-way switches and the paddles themselves, all assignable from the simulator.
Does it work with PlayStation or Xbox?
No. It is a USB wheel for Windows PC. There is no firmware or console licence that enables it on PlayStation or Xbox.
How does the X-29 differ from a GXL V2 or a Formula Pro Elite V2?
The X-29 has no carbon fibre front plate, no RGB telemetry strip and no thumb encoders, and its encoders are 3.5 N·cm rather than 6.5 N·cm. It does share the aluminium chassis, the silicone handles and the N52 paddles. It is the entry model: less electronics, same build.
Do I need anything else to fit it?
Your wheelbase or quick release needs a 70 mm PCD bolt pattern. The “Spec 3” coiled cable is included; the AH50 extension hub is not. If your base sits low or far away in the rig, that hub is the usual companion.
Are the buttons backlit in colour?
Yes. The X-29 carries 20 individually addressable RGB LEDs spread across the ten buttons, so you can assign a colour to each function. The encoders, however, are not RGB backlit.
