The GSI GXL Pro is a 310 mm screenless sim racing steering wheel with a 5 mm matte carbon fibre front plate and a machined 6061 aluminium chassis, built for drivers who prefer to read telemetry on an external dash and keep the wheel face clear.

It began life as the slimmed-down version of the Formula Pro Elite: it keeps the construction and most of the controls of the screened model, but in a thinner silhouette and without the display electronics. With no LCD, the entire front face is given over to buttons, encoders and switches, and the whole thing weighs and costs less than an equivalent wheel with a screen.

Compatibility

It runs over USB on PC (Windows) and mounts on direct drive wheelbases with a 70 mm PCD, either directly or through the matching quick release or hub. In our own fitting experience it installs on MOZA R5, R9, R12, R16 and R21; Asetek Forte and Invicta; Simucube 2 Sport, Pro and Ultimate; Simagic Alpha Mini, Alpha and Alpha Ultimate; VRS Direct Force Pro; Cammus DDWB15; Qubic System QS-DD-20; Accuforce via its quick release, and Fanatec bases through the Podium Hub.

Not compatible with consoles: it is a USB peripheral for PC.
Connect it to a powered USB hub or an active USB repeater; passive USB extension cables cause problems.
As there is no screen, telemetry is read on an external dash or on your monitor.

Frequently asked questions

How does the GXL Pro differ from the Formula Pro Elite?

In the screen. The Formula Pro Elite carries a 4.3-inch touchscreen LCD in the centre of the front plate; the GXL Pro drops it and uses that space to keep the wheel thinner and clearer. They share the 5 mm carbon plate, the 6061 aluminium chassis, the silicone handles and the N52 magnetic paddles.

How many paddles does the version you sell have?

Two aluminium shift paddles, with no dual clutch. It is the entry configuration of the model: if you need to manage the bite point on standing starts, the logical route is a GXL V2 or a Formula Pro Elite V2 with four paddles.

Does it work with PlayStation or Xbox?

No. It is a USB wheel for Windows PC. There is no firmware or console licence that enables it on PlayStation or Xbox.

Do I need anything else to fit it?

Your wheelbase or quick release needs a 70 mm PCD bolt pattern. The “Spec 3” coiled cable and the label set are included; the AH50 extension hub is not.

Without a screen, do I lose information during a race?

No, it changes where you look. Telemetry is shown on an external dash or in a corner of your monitor through the usual dash applications. Many drivers prefer it: your eyes never drop to the wheel and the assembly weighs less.

Do the five finishes change anything beyond the colour?

No. Alpha, Crimson, Omega, Onyx and Sapphire share electronics, materials and functions; what changes is the printing and the colour scheme of the front plate.
